Lore & Background

Cole's path to AEW was paved by an eight-year tenure with Ring of Honor (ROH), where he became the first-ever three-time ROH World Champion and won the 2014 Survival of the Fittest tournament. Before his main roster success, he dominated the independent scene, holding the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship for 245 days and the PWG World Championship. In New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), he was a key member of the Bullet Club stable. His move to WWE in 2017 saw him lead The Undisputed Era alongside Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly, and later Roderick Strong. During this period, Cole became the second wrestler to win the NXT Triple Crown Championship (after Johnny Gargano), holding the inaugural NXT North American title and setting the record for the longest-reigning NXT Champion of all-time. These experiences shaped his character before he returned to AEW as a seasoned veteran.

In Their Own Story

In early 2010 at Fist Fight, Adam Cole defeated Sabian and Ruckus in a three-way match to capture the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship. He successfully defended the title against Ryan Slater in June and August, and Blk Jeez in September. On October 9 at It's Always Bloody in Philadelphia, Cole turned into a heel by attacking his long-time tag team partner Tyler Veritas. Later that night, he retained the championship against AR Fox. In November, he toured Germany with CZW, retaining the title against Zack Sabre Jr. At Cage of Death XII in December, manager Mia Yim helped him retain the Junior Heavyweight Championship in two separate matches. His reign ended on November 12, 2011, when he lost to Sami Callihan despite interference from D.J. Hyde and Yim, concluding a historic 553-day run that remains the longest in the championship's history.

He later became a three-time ROH World Champion and a one-time ROH World Television Champion. His time in WWE established him as a cornerstone of the NXT brand from 2017 to 2021, where he led The Undisputed Era and held the NXT Championship longer than anyone else. Upon joining AEW in September 2021, he continued his legacy by winning the TNT Championship and the Owen Hart Cup.
